GE Capital Solutions

GE and the GE Foundation have been involved in ABLAZE since its inception through programme design, finance, business volunteers and secondments. Significant funding has been for the Excellence in Bristol Schools programme and Imagination at Play. They are partnered with Patchway Community College and Shield Road Primary School.

Imagination at Play

The GE Foundation donated $100,000 to this project which was originally run with four Bristol Primary Schools who had identified the need to improve learning in the afternoon.  Working with volunteers from GE the schools identified lunchtime issues as one of the root causes of poor performance.  Their improvement planning process resulted in significant impact on behaviour and attainment.

There is comprehensive training material pack available to help each school evaluate their lunchtimes and help them to make improvements.

The pack contains:

  • Imagination at Play user guide containing CD with evaluation from original project and information about how it could be applied
  • Games Sheets for use in the playground - these games were collected from around the world and have been comprehensively ‘tested' on Bristol schoolchildren

This CD can be used:

1/ As a resource that can support lunchtime staff training, improvement to the playground environment and child centred activities including ways to empower pupils.

2/ To align the support activities provided by the Local Authority.

3/ To work with a business partner
