Through ABLAZE Excellence in Bristol Schools, we have been working with Bedminster Down Secondary School. 15 women from our Bristol office are involved in a mentoring project aimed at raising aspirations. We are mentoring 15 girls who will be sitting their GCSE's in 2007. The mentoring is on a one to one basis and has so far involved;

  • group outings (i.e. lunch, trip to the office);
  • objective setting meetings, with the individual girls and their year head; and
  • lots of email's and text's - this seems to be the best way of communicating with the girls.

There is also a study skills group after school twice a week which we can attend

We are also involved with Hannah More Primary School in the following projects.

  • Grand Opening - We helped out at their grand opening summer party - Hannah More have recently had a large extension added to the school. 5 Volunteers from the our Bristol office helped out with the stalls, donkey rides and selling balloons. We rather bizarrely had five winning tickets for the raffle, so had to keep getting it re-drawn!
  • Children's Proms - We gave a donation to the school to enable their choir to get to the Albert Hall to participate in the Children's Proms. They won a place after competing against 40 other schools in the Bristol area. To thank us for the donation the Hannah More choir came to our Bristol office in December to sing us some Christmas songs!
  • Christmas Cards - Once again we asked the children of Hannah More to design our corporate Christmas card. We pay the school £1 for each entry received. We received 134 entries this year. The winning 3 get WHSmith vouchers.
